HORACE MANN MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS TO RECEIVE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
Colorado Springs, CO (date) – Horace Mann Middle School will soon receive new musical instruments, thanks to The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation and Tedeschi Trucks Band.
With many school music programs across the country losing vital funding, the foundation helps under-served schools with minimal budgets by donating new instruments, often replacing some that are more than 30 years old.
An application for support was submitted by Kim Kincaid and the foundation found their program to be a worthwhile investment, allowing more students to be able to play and experience the benefits of music education.
Receiving this grant will help ensure that every student can participate in the band program and
I am thrilled that our students have been recognized for all their hard work. Mrs. Kincaid, Director of Bands
“Giving more kids access to quality music education will transform and accelerate learning not only in school but in life,” said Felice Mancini, President & CEO of The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. “All children deserve this gift and we applaud the teachers and school districts that recognize and support their music programs. We will support you!"
“Susan and I were both fortunate to have instruments available to us when we were young,” said Derek Trucks of Tedeschi Trucks Band. “Sadly, this is not the case for so many students these days, at a time when having the tools to express creativity is so vital to their education. We were happy and humbled to be able to help.”
Now in its tenth year, Tedeschi Trucks Band is a Grammy-winning, 12-piece blues rock ensemble that has its roots in Jacksonville. Led by husband-and-wife team of guitarist Derek Trucks and vocalist/guitarist Susan Tedeschi, the band carries a distinguished reputation as one of the premier live bands in the world. With a catalog of five albums since its inception in 2010, Tedeschi Trucks Band is currently working on their next studio album, a follow up to the Grammy-nominated CD/film release, Live From The Fox Oakland.
