Welcome to seventh grade Language Arts! Seventh grade is a year of highly visible progress in reading, writing, and language arts. By the end of seventh grade, students should:
- Develop complex writing skills
- Constructively critique their own and other’s writing
- Apply punctuation, grammar and syntax skills
- Recognize and apply grade appropriate vocabulary
- Read with fluency, with focus on comprehension

Language Arts Expectations:
- Bring a composition notebook and pencil to class
- Complete classwork each day or take it home for homework
- Participate in class discussions and presentations
- Write important daily tasks and assignments in planner
- Show your best attitude and effort; follow classroom rules/procedures at all times
Language Arts Novels:
- The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
- The Giver by Lois Lowry
- The Pearl by John Steinbeck
Language Arts Assignments:
- Multiple writing assignments per quarter or unit
- Mini-lessons on grammar and writing style
Projects, presentations, group assignments, and homework throughout the year
