Mrs. Linda Bowen
Music has profoundly impacted my life. Playing a musical instrument requires dedication, discipline and opens doors to a wonderful community of like-minded individuals who are equally passionate about music. I encourage all students to participate in a performing art class, whether it be orchestra, band or choir. There is a plethora of research that explains how music stimulates the right and left brain and helps students be more successful in school. Our district recognizes the importantance of the arts and has a variety of musical classes that students can choose from throughout their academic career in District 11. In my opinion, the D11 string program is one of the crown jewels of our performing arts classes.
At Jenkins Middle School, I have the pleasure of working with talented orchestra students in 6th-8th grades. I set high standards for my students, and delight in seeing students meet and, often, exceed, my highest expectations. Additionally, our administrative staff is extremely supportive of the performing arts, and offers a variety of classes from which students can choose.
I look forward to another wonderful year of teaching orchestra at Jenkins Middle School.

String Flash Cards for Each Instrument
This website provides a great tool to help your orchestra student learn their notes quickly. To use, click on the correct instrument and scroll through the notes. Though there are instructions to 'make' your own flashcards, you can also use this as it appears. Have your student tell you the name of the note along with the correct string and fingering for each note on the music staff.
